Explorarea noii locatii: Planul solului doi

NASA’s rover Curiosity continues its exploration on Mars with a new plan for the second sol in a different location. The focus of this plan is on untargeted remote sensing, with the ChemCam using AEGIS to autonomously search for a LIBS target in the new area.

In addition to this, Curiosity will take a series of short Navcam movies to search for dust devils around the rover. This will provide valuable information about the atmospheric conditions on Mars and help scientists better understand the dynamics of the planet’s surface.

Furthermore, a Navcam 3×1 line-of-sight mosaic will be created to determine the amount of dust currently in the atmosphere within the Gale crater. This data will be crucial for monitoring changes in the Martian environment and studying the effects of dust storms on the planet.

After completing its tasks for the day, Curiosity will rest and periodically send back the data it has collected to Earth. The rover’s instruments, including DAN, REMS, and RAD, will continue to work in the background, with RAD in particular being busy due to the high solar activity observed recently.

Overall, the new plan for Curiosity’s exploration on Mars showcases the rover’s versatility and ability to adapt to different environments. By using advanced technology and remote sensing techniques, scientists are able to gather valuable data that will enhance our understanding of the Red Planet and its unique characteristics.

Because we’ll be in a new location, the second sol of this plan is all untargeted remote sensing. ChemCam will use AEGIS to autonomously search for a LIBS target in our new location, then we’ll take a series of short Navcam movies to look for dust devils around the rover and a Navcam 3×1 line-of-sight mosaic to determine the amount of dust currently in the atmosphere within Gale. Shortly after noon, Curiosity will call it a day (or sol, really) and head back to sleep for the rest of this plan, occasionally waking up to phone home with the data it has gathered. As always, DAN, REMS, and RAD remain hard at work in the background, RAD particularly so given the high solar activity that has been seen recently.
